What we do

Our services

Kilmessan General Practice offers the full range of family medicine, together with dedicated clinics in allergy and medical weight management. If you are unsure whether we can help with something, please ring us — we would rather you asked.

Everyday care

General consultations

The bread and butter of general practice: whatever is worrying you, this is where to start. A standard consultation is fifteen minutes, and we will book you a longer slot if you tell us you have several things to discuss.

Where you need care we cannot provide here, we will refer you promptly and explain exactly what happens next.

Typically includes

  • Acute illness — infections, chest and urine complaints, rashes
  • Injuries, wound care, dressings and suture removal
  • Blood pressure checks and cardiovascular risk assessment
  • Blood tests, ECGs and urine testing on site
  • Ear syringing and eye examination
  • Mental health support and referral
  • Referrals to hospital consultants and community services

Conditions we review

  • Type 2 diabetes and pre-diabetes
  • Asthma and COPD, including inhaler technique
  • High blood pressure and high cholesterol
  • Heart failure, angina and atrial fibrillation
  • Thyroid disease
  • Anticoagulation and INR monitoring

Long-term conditions

Chronic disease management

If you live with a long-term condition, you are entitled to structured, planned care rather than crisis appointments. We run scheduled reviews with bloods taken in advance, so that when you come in we can spend the time talking about your results and your treatment.

Medical Card and GP Visit Card holders with an eligible condition are covered under the HSE Chronic Disease Management Programme, which includes two scheduled reviews each year at no charge.

Special interest clinic

Allergy & clinical immunology

Allergy is one of the most common reasons people are sent from one service to another without ever getting a clear answer. Dr Mirza holds a Postgraduate Certificate in Allergy & Clinical Immunology, so we are able to assess and manage most allergic conditions here in the practice.

Appointments in this clinic are longer than a standard consultation because a proper allergy assessment depends on a careful history.

We can help with

  • Hay fever and persistent rhinitis
  • Food allergy and food intolerance
  • Drug and antibiotic allergy labels
  • Eczema, urticaria (hives) and angioedema
  • Insect sting reactions
  • Allergic asthma
  • Adrenaline auto-injector training and care plans

Where specialist testing or immunotherapy is needed, we arrange onward referral and stay involved in your care.

What the clinic involves

  1. Assessment

A full medical review including bloods, to look for causes and complications.

  2. A plan you can live with

Nutrition, activity, sleep and behaviour — built around your circumstances.

  3. Treatment where appropriate

Prescribed weight-management medication, with proper monitoring and review.

  4. Ongoing follow-up

Regular reviews so progress is measured and setbacks are dealt with early.

Special interest clinic

Medical weight management

Obesity is a medical condition, not a failure of willpower, and it responds to proper medical treatment. Dr Mirza holds an MSc in Obesity & Weight Management and runs a dedicated clinic for patients who want a structured, evidence-based approach.

We treat weight in the context of your whole health — blood pressure, blood sugar, joints, sleep and mood — rather than as a number on a scale.

Medication

Repeat prescriptions

If you take regular medication, we can issue repeats between reviews. Please allow two working days — prescriptions are not issued while you wait.

  1. Request it

Phone the surgery on 089 483 7929, or email kilmessangp@gmail.com with your name, date of birth, the medication and the pharmacy you use.

  2. We review it

The doctor checks your record before signing. If you are overdue a review or a blood test, we will contact you to arrange one first.

  3. Collect it

We can send the prescription electronically to your pharmacy, or you can collect it from the surgery.

Please don't run out

Order your repeat about a week before you need it. Certain medications — including controlled drugs, sedatives and strong painkillers — always require a consultation and cannot be issued as a phone repeat.

Not sure which appointment you need?

Ring the surgery and tell us briefly what it is about. We will book you the right length of appointment with the right person.
